"Thanks to everyone associated with Camp Glisson. My daughter enjoyed her week @ Glisson for the 7th year a few weeks ago. She has made friends that will last a lifetime ... Glisson is THE BEST!!"

- Melanie, parent of a 2011 camper

Expedition Camp

See Outpost in action climbing and caving
Rising 10th-12th grade: With only ten spots per week, this adventure camp is sure to fill up fast! Representing the final stage of Outpost's progression of wilderness skills, Expedition campers reach a high level of outdoor skills on either the river, trail, or rock-face that will not only offer excitement and fun but also foster spiritual and personal growth essential for Christian living and leadership. Campers will learn and refine outdoor skills such as cooking their own meals, building fires, first aid, use of axe and saw, knot-tying, and many others. Campers will also learn how to set up tarp shelters, which allow better air flow during summer months.

Expedition campers choose from one of three adventure trips: Rock Climbing, Kayaking, or Backpacking. All Expedition campers begin the week at Outpost (except for Rock Climbing), where they practice the skills needed for their advanced wilderness trip. All four of these trips provide great opportunities to experience God's creation with a group that will rely on each other for a safe and fun adventure. Each year, campers will reach a higher level of outdoor living skills endorsed by the American Camping Association as this wilderness experiential education strengthens their skills, faith, and confidence.

Trip Options

Rock Climbing will pick-up and drop-off in Lafeyette, GA in 2012

Rock Climbing: New for 2012! This trip is designed for campers interested in gaining the skills and confidence needed to be able to coordinate a climbing trip on their own.
Campers will spend the week climbing at Rocktown, located on Pigeon Mountain in Lafayette, GA and will experience all aspects of safety and skills needed to master the sport of climbing. On Thursdays, campers will spend an afternoon caving. Campers will meet in Lafayette, GA on Sunday afternoon and be picked up in Lafayette on Friday. This is a shift from drop-off and pick-up at Glisson that will allow more time climbing and caving rather than bus riding. Outpost Climbing Video

  White Water Kayaking at Glisson
White Water Kayaking teaches advanced kayaking skills in closed boats
White Water Kayaking:
New for 2012! This exciting new trip is designed for campers who have been on at least one previous Kayaking trip at Glisson. This trip focuses on honing the paddling skills necessary to navigate enclosed white water boats down a river including kayak rolls. River selection will be announced closer to summer according to water levels of local North Georgia rivers. Join us for a fun trip down the river and see how God's creation can facilitate a life-changing experience for your faith development.

  Outpost Backpacking Trip
Backpacking takes campers on the Benton MacKaye & Appalachian Trails
Backpacking:
Backpackers leave Monday morning for four and a half days of hiking on the Benton MacKaye and
Appalachian Trails. The Backpacking experience is designed with more than mile-counting in mind. Time is built into the schedule for lunch breaks at scenic points on the trail and  side trips such as swimming in the Toccoa River. Campers will have the chance to gain the skills and confidence needed to be able to coordinate a backpacking trip on their own.

  Outpost Kayaking
Kayaking takes campers on local rivers in open boats
Kayaking: Kayakers begin with kayak training and games at Glisson before spending four and a half days on the Chestatee and Etowah Rivers. No prior kayaking experience is required. Campers will learn basic kayaking and river navigation skills for paddling in open boats (i.e. no spray skirts). This Kayaking trip is designed as a pre-requisite for the new White Water Kayaking trip.
